But, maybe if Winnipeg can get 16,000 people a game, they could get 6,000,000 more in ticket sales and maybe another 500,000 in concessions. That would mean a profit of 6,000,000. I think it would be great there. I think I heard somewhere about the MTS Centre expanding to 18,000 somewhere. Trust me, Winnipeg can support a team. Phoenix is screwed if they don’t make the playoffs next year (for extra revenues).

It doesn’t matter how big the cities market is, it depends if hockey is loved in that city! BETTMAN YOU DUMBASS!

I’m sure Bill Gates won’t mind helping get a team back into Winnipeg. Good Luck Jets!

I think it is possible for the NHL to return to Winnipeg! I’m a Wild fan, I remembere when we lost the North Stars to Dallas. When we tried to get the NHL back to Minnesota, we had to build a new arean, huge fan support, good ownership, and fundings to get the team, thw Wild are already doing well, they made the playoffs Three of their first Seven Seasons (Lockout doesn’t count), and each game is sold out!

I believe Winnipeg could support the budget, and Mark Chipman (True North Sports & Entertainment) must believe that as well, or there wouldn’t be talk at all about the subject. The Moose would be replaced by the NHL, goes without saying; as for the Goldeyes, I don’t think they factor into the equation.

like the guy said can winnipeg support the budget… well i think the only way we can is get rid of the moose and gold eyes and we got a chance

except in USA the teams pay less taxes than in Canada, since we are a socialist country. However, I think they would still do well, because Edmonton did with 16839 seats

Even if it was only 16,500, that’s more fans than you would get in Atlanta, Florida, and Phoenix right now.

The one story I saw after the MTS was Built was that if one day the NHL would return to the Peg was that for less than $1 mil they could expand the stands to accompany 18,300 Patrons…Dunno if that plan is still on the table or not though.

I don’t about 18000, but it is expandable… At the very least an additional 12 luxury suites and a row of seats around the upper bowl, without any major renovations needed! To expand to 18000 would be a major project, and may not be cost-effective. The limited seating, however it may end up being (16500?) would ensure supply and demand.

Supposedly the new MTS Centre is expandable, etc to get to 18,000 People.

You don’t play hockey in a stadium, you play hockey in an arena — and it is well-documented that the MTS Centre is big enough.

winnipeg sadly along with any other canadian city that could support an nhl team will never see the day we get another nhl team…bettman does not want another hockey team in canada nor alot of american owners…maybe with all the empty seats in nashville along with carolina and the other american duds sombody will wake up and notce this ,bettman sure will not ….

The MTS Centre would be the home of the new franchise, which currently seats 15003 and has 48 luxury suites; it could be expanded — if necessary — with another 12 suites or skyboxes, and another row of seats around the upper bowl (as I understand it).

The Moose were 4th overall in AHL attendance for the 2006-2007 season, at over 7500 avg per game, with a maximum of 20-25 free tix per game.
